Our theme above for Prayer Trek 6 indicates this prayer trek is different from the previous five prayer treks, since we traveled by plane to these states versus automobile. We departed Austin on Monday, November 3rd at 8:00 AM, with our first flight taking us to Oregon with a connection in Denver, Colorado. Our standing scripture for Trek 6 was Isaiah 40:31 - "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint." We also prepared for this prayer trek by reading through the book of Joshua, with God telling us, "Do not be afraid, but be strong and courageous, for He would be with us every place we set our foot. He would not fail us, nor abandon us." We knew these words would carry us through, because He is faithful to His word.
We also knew that with air travel, there was a particularly important strategy for targeted prayers to be released. November 3rd was the day before the mid-term elections would take place throughout the nation, and in all of our previous prayer treks we had been praying for a shift to occur in our nation that would raise up righteous leaders. With that in mind, we released many scriptures pertaining to the promises of God while we traveled and were trusting in Him for a great victory. Our prayers seemed like prayer bombs falling from 38,000 feet over our flight path as we flew towards our first stop at Salem, Oregon.
Upon landing in Portland, we immediately drove to Salem to pray at the Capitol. The rain and the cool autumn air sent us inside the capitol building to the chamber of the House of Representatives where we sat and prayed for over an hour releasing the prayers in our Capitol Point Prayer Guide. Oregon's name, Algonquian, means "beautiful water." Oregon's motto is "She flies with Her Own Wings." It's nickname is The Beaver State. We were trusting God as our prayers were joined with those who are praying in this great state for revival and awakening.
Early the next morning, our flight departed Portland at 5:30 AM to connect in San Francisco to fly to Maui, Hawaii. Our stop in San Francisco gave us time to pray for the state of California one more time. These prayers were added onto the prayers we had prayed on Trek 2 in 2013. The scripture given to us as we flew on to Maui was Psalm 139:9-10: "If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there Your hand will guide me, and Your strength will support me."
Although we were somewhat tired when we arrived in Maui at 1:00 PM, we were also grateful to have been given this opportunity to go to Hawaii. The Lord graciously blessed us with this trip, not only to pray for this wonderful state, but to also celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We set the date of Friday, November 7th as the day to pray in Honolulu.
Hawaii is called the Aloha State, but its motto is "The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness." The capitol building is unusual in structure and design. It is a large square building surrounded by a pool of water, reflecting the building on each side and representing an island. There are eight columns on each side of the building, which represent the eight main islands. The columns are also designed to represent the palm trees in the state.
We were greatly blessed as we prayed and toured the building and grounds, and also visited the Governor's Office. We prayed a blessing over the administration and his office. May God bless this state and the people of Hawaii as the wave of His glory rolls across this state!
Hawaii marked the 35th state of our mandate to pray on point in all 50 states. 2014 has been a very strategic year for Capitol Point Prayer from many standpoints:
- We prayed in the first state admitted to the Union (Delaware) and also the last (Hawaii).
- We were privileged to also visit and pray at Ft. McHenry for the 200th anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner and also at Gettysburg (the turning point of the Civil War).
- We have now prayed border-to-border (Idaho, Montana, and Michigan) in addition to praying coast-to-coast (in 2013).
- We have also prayed in our most western state capital (Honolulu), the home to Pearl Harbor.
Plans are now underway to complete the prayer treks for the 15 remaining states, and this is set for 2015. We trust you will continue to pray for us, but also with us as we pray for our nation and the remaining states.
Enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery of Salem, Oregon and the capitol in Honolulu, Hawaii.
